This Week in Fourth Grade

Wrapping Up the Southeast

Students finished their Prezi presentations on topics in the Southeast and will present them next week.  We will be moving into the Southwest region of the United States next week as well.  Students will learn to refine their research skills and have also started to learn about summarizing non-fiction during reader's workshop.  They will use this skill to help them write presentations on a topic in the Southwest.  Students will then turn these presentations into iMovies.  Below is a fantastic team putting the finishing touches on their Prezi.

Field Trip!

We will be heading to Moose Hill Sanctuary on May 31st.  Permission slips were sent home this week.  Chaperones are welcome, so if you are interested, please let us know!  In addition, if you are planning on ordering a school bag lunch for your child that day, please let us know.  Students cannot order these lunches the day of the trip and must do so in advance.

Teamwork

We continue to spend time in the gym on Thursdays during morning meeting.  The difference this time has made with our students can be observed every day during recess.  We have had more boys and girls playing cooperative sports such as basketball, football, and soccer than ever before.  We hear encouragement and see students talking out disagreements.  We see students take turns being team captain and great attitudes all around!  Below are some pictures of the game we played this week.

Yearbook

Please feel free to take pictures off of our blog to submit for the yearbook!

Game Faces!
Last week we started our Football Frenzy math practice.  The kids were turned into "football players" on Monday, so they could play the part of being on a team for our practice math problems.  Students have been working together as a team to solve math problems. Before checking their answers they needed to make sure everyone in the group could describe the steps they took to solve the problem. When they could solve the problem correctly they could pick a card that told the number of yards they would advance on our football field.
